What problem does the DP-1000 adapter kit address?
There are many older diesel engines using the "Lucas CAV" diesel fuel filter
head. Changing the fuel filter in these engines is a much hated job! This
process requires the person servicing the engine to loosen a plug at the
bottom of the fuel bowl while draining the fuel into a bucket (or worse).
Then a bolt needs to be loosened on the top with one hand while keeping the
housing from turning with the other. After these tasks are completed, the
lower unit must be grabbed and slightly twisted with both hands in order to
pull the filter and bowl down and away from the filter head. Many times, this
job is done in an awkward working position that does not permit one to see
the filter while working on it! It is no wonder that the odor of spilled diesel
fuel frequently accompanies this procedure. Installing a new filter takes the
reverse process but adds the intricate process of bleeding the air from the
fuel line. Normal time to do the job once is about 45 to 60 minutes, however,
if and when this complicated procedure results in a leak, the process must be
started all over again.
How does the DP-1000 adapter kit correct the problem?
The DP-1000 adapter allows the use of spin-on fuel filters. This is the
technology that is used in modern diesel engines. Since diesel fuel can be
drained directly from or stay inside the filter, diesel fuel spills and the resulting
odor from the spills are virtually eliminated. Diesel fuel can be poured into
the new filter in advance of the filter installation, which means no more
bleeding the air out of the diesel fuel lines! Normal time to change the filter:
10 minutes.
Is the DP-1000 adapter kit limited to a certain type of
equipment?
No, The DP-1000 adapter kit may be used in any piece of equipment
employing the CAV filter head with a 6½" clearance below the filter head.
Common examples include construction equipment, tractors, sailboats,
motorboats, and yachts all over the world.

UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIAL POSTED ON THE INTERNET
Subject: [worldcruising] Diesel Filter Adaptor

"Had some fuel filter problems recently. I really hate changing the
cartridge type filter directly on our Perkins 4-108 as it breaks the bleed and
the engine is real hard to get bled right, which means, of course, that it
was that filter which was causing the problems. If you've never draped
out across a hot engine while anchored in the mouth of a motorboat river
on a Sunday afternoon trying to hit a bucket with the filter, the diesel and
your puke, you just haven't been boating lately.
When we got back I order a spin-on adaptor for the engine mount primary
filter. If you haven't seen this unit, the company got written up in Practical
Sailor sometime back. PS thought that this was a great product. I think so
too. You'll also see their ads in the back of all the mags.
Fill the new spin-on filter with diesel, spin off the old, spin on the new,
and bleed your filter housing by cracking the screw and giving the manual
fuel pump a half dozen pumps, set the throttle full open, and hit the
button. Vroooom! Even though the advertisements said that the unit
eliminated bleeding, I didn't think it would work. But I installed and
uninstalled the new spin-on filter 4 times and every time the engine fired
right off without bleeding the high pressure side--way cool."
Get rid of the bowl and cartridge filter and start using a spin-on filter by installing the DP-1000 adapter!
